What’s New
Soulful, Southern Blues
Around 1997 Stevie Hawkins, a very talented drummer / vocalist joined Reddog and Friends in a house band gig in Marietta, Georgia. Popper’s was the name of the venue and what incredible blues fans turned out. The place was jamming! Stevie was very professional and a pleasure to work with. Here is Stevie’s rendition of one of Reddog’s original tunes, “Honest Man”.
So many great musicians have worked with Reddog, both live and in the studio. Donnie McCormick was the drummer, vocalist and treasured friend for many years in Atlanta, Georgia. He is dearly missed but here is a video of Donnie McCormick, Chris Long, Reddog and Wayne “Bear” Sauls. Both Donnie and Bear were former members of the Capricorn Record’s band Eric Quincy Tate.
“One realizes to what extent this album of a gifted guitarist is also that of a singer and composer of the first rank. “Down, Down, Down” where the Reddog guitar expresses all the juices of the South ( even evoking the Freddie King of the Shelter period).” Inside the Canyon
“Once one of the favorite performers in Underground Atlanta. Reddog held court on Monday nights at Blues Harbor during the 70’s and 80’s, fronting an ensemble that regularly included musicians who recorded with Capricorn Records and were major players in the Macon and Hotlanta music scenes.” Blues Blast Magazine
Lots of Soulful, Southern music got recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Special thanks to Charles Holloman, John Gifford III and East Avalon Recorders.
My favorite ladies showed up to sing! The Southern Shoals Soul Singers: Carla Russell, Mary Mason and Angela Hacker.
